Inception

Description Defines the scope of the project and the vision of the product to be delivered at the end of the wave.

Milestone Lifecycle Objective (which is reflected by the Inception artifacts)


   

Elaboration

Description Defines where we plan the necessary activities and required resources for the wave. This is when the detailed requirements are written and the architecture is designed.
Artifacts
  • Use Case Model (80% complete, including survey, actor identification, and most descriptions and diagrams)
  • Supplementary (detailed) requirements
  • Architecture description/design/prototype
  • Executable architecture prototype
  • Development plan for overall project, showing iterations and evaluation criteria
Milestone Life-cycle Architecture (examine the detailed system objectives, scope, architecture choices and resolve major risks if any exist)


   

Construction

Description The product is built and the vision is evolved, if necessary, during the Construction phase. This phase is complete when the product is tested and ready for transfer to the user community.

  • Completed detailed design
  • Completed Code
  • User manuals
  • Description of current release
  • Completed test scripts
Milestone Initial Operational Capability (decide whether the software, sites, and users are ready to become operational without 
exposing the project to high risks)


 

Transition

Description Packaging, training and support of the product is done.

  • Software installed at wave partner site
  • Necessary training completed
  • Feedback to be included in the next wav
